2015 WFTDA Playoffs Weekly Rankings

Welcome back to another exciting edition of the 2015 WFTDA Weekly Rankings.  We didn’t have much happening this past weekend, but we did have one bout that could potentially have a major impact on the 2015 Playoffs.  Also, I will be bringing a new part to the rankings as I show you how many bouts each team in the Top 100 has played.  This will help show just how much movement is possible as a team with only 1 bout played will see a lot more week-to-week movement than a team that already has played 10.

But first to a bout we may be looking back to in June/July and saying that really made a huge difference.  For the past two years the the Ft. Wayne Derby Girls have been growing and could very well be positioned to take a spot in this year’s playoffs.  In 2013 Ft. Wayne had a rough year, albeit against some very good competition and finished 99th in the Playoff Rankings with a 2-10 record.  Then in 2014 they jumped all the way up to 79th with a 9-2 record, which tells me their competition ranks actually held them back a little bit.  But coming off of this weekend’s 203-175 win over Killamazoo tells me that Ft. Wayne could definitely be a player this year when it comes to the 2015 Playoffs.  They enter the rankings this week at #38, and while I think that may be a bit higher than where they will finish they are starting on the right foot and need to be taken very serious as a contender for a playoff spot.

This upcoming week sees a few Top 100 teams playing, and ultimately could really tell us what kind of team Killamazoo has this year as they keep busy against Grand Raggidy.  Also, Brewcity has announced the teams that will be participating in their annual BrewHaHa and it is a loaded field this year.  For the full list please check it out here:  http://www.brewcitybruisers.com/teams/2015-midwest-brewhaha-teams/  My big question, are we going to see a Gotham vs. Your Mom bout?  I sure hope so.

And for one final shameless plug, please check out the Brewcity Home Season Bout #1 recap at http://www.brewcitybruisers.com/2015/01/bcb-home-season-bout-1-recap/  BCB has been super gracious in letting me do this for them and I can not thank them enough.

  1. At the end of 2012, Fort Wayne had multiple skaters leave their league and go to Naptown which is reflected in their 2013 results. Most of those skaters returned in 2014 and boosted the strength of their travel team. I expect they should contend for a D2 playoff appearance this year.
