Sorry for the delay in getting this out, but with WFTDA releasing their latest rankings today I felt it was more important to wait an extra day and get it right than be out on time. There was a ton of action this past week and I will touch on a lot of it, but for starters lets take a look at the teams that participated in Stake to Thrill, hosted by St. Chux.
|Team||# of Bouts||Tourney Record||Average WFTDA Score||Change in Weekly Rankings|
I don’t know if anyone was really surprised by most of the results at Skate to Thrill, but holy crap did Arch Rival just dominate. (For complete bout recaps be sure to check out Derby Central) With this weekend Arch Rival moved all the way up to #13 in the weekly rankings and had an average WFTDA score over 220 points higher than any other team there. As a whole this really was a successful weekend for almost all of the teams as St. Chux was the only team who saw their ranking decrease by more than 2 spots and one of those spots was from Demolition City who jumped up 11. This despite a 1-2 record. All in all it was a great weekend and this is quickly turning into a very solid tournament in the Midwest for those teams in the bottom half of D1 or in D2. For just being their 2nd year St. Chux does an absolutely fabulous job.
In other action we had Madison pulling double against Jacksonville and Atlanta, and unfortunately the results were not good for them. Two big defeats saw them drop 10 spots in the rankings, slotting them all the way down at #37. It may have been a bit much to ask of the going up against two Top 15 teams, but I still feel Madison will do well to make it to D1 playoffs and pull in a 5-7th place finish once there. Another big mover this week was Boston who moved up 7 spots with wins over Steel City and Ohio. This put them up into 21st and well above that all important 28th ranking line for playoffs. Like I have said many times, you do not want to enter D1 playoffs as a 7th seed or higher. That gives you a best case scenario of facing a #1 or #2 seed as a reward for winning your opening game. OUCH!!!
Finally this week I’ll leave you with a little bit of analysis. A few weeks back I had a little discussion on Facebook about what i felt were going to be the D1 and D2 point averages needed to qualify this year. I’m going to re-affirm my belief that it will take between 255-260 points to make it to D2 and (even though it may be a bit high) I’m sticking with 305-310 to make it to D1. WFTDA scores go up as the year goes on, but at the same time making your average go up gets more difficult. If you have already played 9 bouts and your average is 200, your next bout needs an average of 210 just to move your overall average to 201. So making a big move could be difficult if your team has already played a lot of bouts. That is important to think about, as every single point matters.
I hope you all enjoyed the recap and below find the TOP 100 this week.
