Hello everyone and welcome back to the weekly WFTDA Rankings for the 2015 Playoffs. We are getting oh so close that the end is clearly in sight. We are still getting some movement, but as we get further and further along its a lot less than it was earlier in the season. The real battles are shaping up for this last month of action as there are some really close races among key spots.
The first battle is going to be for that important #12 ranking. By being #12 you get a #3 seed and get a first round match-up with a #6 instead of a #5 and then get a #2 in the semis instead of matching up with a #1. Im showing 4 teams (Arch Rival, London, Atlanta, and Rocky Mtn.) all within 20 WFTDA points. That is a lot to make up at this stage, but if someone struggles and someone else hits a huge win its not insurmountable.
The next battle will be for those Division 1 #10 seeds. Just look at all the teams ranked between 38-45 right now. Those are some stellar teams and some of them will not be D1 this year. Now we don’t know what Oly is going to do, or if any other teams will opt out this year, but that is a gaggle of teams. But the biggest wildcard is actually the team Im showing at #37 (Stockholm). With only 3 recorded bouts they have so much more movement ahead of them. And with 3 big bouts ahead at the 2015 East Coast Derby Extravaganza their ranking is very much up in the air.
The battle to get in at the bottom of D2 may actually have less teams involved, with only about 6 teams really in play for the final 2 or 3 spots, it is going to be just as intense. And this is a perfect story of how important a whole year of quality bouts is to your ranking. Even if you are on your game right now, you can get left behind. As of today Brewcity is on the outside looking in, despite having wins over 2 teams that would be in (Brandywine and Outfit) in the last 3 weeks. For them a good showing at the Midwest BrewHaHa this upcoming weekend may be enough to put them over the hump and back into D2.
Whatever happens over the next few weeks it sure will be fun to watch. And we just keep getting closer to see if this whole thing known as the Derby Math Rankings works or not. Its been a crazy 11 months since I’ve started working on this stuff and I sure hope that the rankings can hold some weight when this all done. And as I struggle to finish out the year of this, I just really hope that it pays off.
